Sessions
As bitcoin adoption accelerates, accounting is the next hurdle for serious builders. Most early adopters rely on Excel for tracking. Few have solved the accounting challenges essential for a circular bitcoin economy in which companies and individuals use bitcoin as the unit of account. In this session, I share real-world lessons from accounting in bitcoin, such as experiencing a mining P&L in sats, illustrating why managing finances on a bitcoin standard is a game-changer. Our team is building BitBooks and Bitcoin Connector, with a plan to open source key parts so our community is ready with the accounting tools to support payment adoption. We are seeking collaboration with other thought leaders. Importantly, this talk moves beyond just cost-basis accounting for capital gains tax reporting, focusing instead on the core accounting needs of bitcoin-native businesses. Join us to explore the critical adaptations to legacy accounting and the network effect of accounting in bitcoin’s future.
Ask a room of bitcoiners about accounting, and the answer is usually tax compliance. This fireside chat turns the focus to the bigger—and more exciting—challenge: running businesses and personal finances where bitcoin is the true measure of value. As payment rails mature and bitcoin adoption accelerates, our accounting needs are changing fast. Panelists will discuss the practical, yet complex puzzle of accounting for bitcoin and brainstorm the future of bitcoin-native standards and tools through a Q&A of the panel members and the audience. The aim is to launch a wider conversation and new collaborations, making accounting a dynamic driver of adoption.
Bitcoin’s momentum is unstoppable, yet payments are just the beginning. Let’s have an honest conversation about the unsolved challenges in accounting for bitcoin. Why aren’t more people thinking about this? How do we make privacy, sovereignty, and compliance work together as we design accounting for bitcoin-first businesses and individuals? This session shares lessons from building BitBooks and Bitcoin Connector from scratch, and tries to spark the collaboration needed across open source, business, and community. We’ll clarify why the usual focus on cost-basis for capital gains tax reporting misses the real opportunities and challenges for managing finances on a bitcoin standard.
