Recognizing the future significance of Bitcoin, Patrick van der Meijde, along with Annet de Boer and Rogier Eijkelhof, established Arnhem Bitcoin City in 2014. The pivotal moment came when the first major brand supermarket, SPAR, began accepting Bitcoin in 2014, garnering global attention. BitKassa, the Bitcoin payment provider they developed, is predominantly used in the Netherlands and Belgium.
