Bitcoin Ekasi was inspired by Bitcoin Beach, in El Salvador. A project very similar to Bitcoinstad Arnhem, with the primary focus on Bitcoin adoption as everyday money.
However, besides the inspiration, many other elements enabled the establishment of Bitcoin Ekasi, without which the project would never have had the platform it needed to get off the ground.
In this presentation, I will discuss some of the elements that enabled the platform utilized for the Bitcoin Ekasi project.
Hermann Vivier, co-founder of The Surfer Kids and founder of Bitcoin Ekasi, became interested in Bitcoin in 2013 due to the Cyprus banking crisis. He and his wife adopted Bitcoin for their South African tourism business in 2015. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, they expanded their involvement in the Bitcoin space, leading to the creation of Bitcoin Ekasi in August 2021.
