2025 Early Career / Junior Scholar Workshop
Asian Law and Society Association (ALSA)
We are pleased to announce the Call for Applications for the 2025 Early Career / Junior Scholar Workshop, which will be held on 11 December 2025 at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia, immediately preceding the ALSA 2025 Annual Meeting.
✳ Eligibility
We welcome applications from:
- Doctoral students in the late stages of their education,
- Postdoctoral fellows who completed their doctoral degrees no earlier than 1 May 2022, and
- Faculty members in the first three years of their academic careers.
Note: LL.M. and undergraduate students are not eligible.
Career breaks (e.g. due to family or pandemic) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
🔎 About the Workshop
This one-day, in-person workshop provides:
- A platform for discussing law-and-society research relevant to Asia,
- Feedback on participants’ written work (draft paper or chapter),
- Seminars on research methods, writing, and publishing,
- Mentoring from senior and emerging scholars in the field, and
- An opportunity to build a supportive academic network.
Selected participants will be grouped by topic for in-depth feedback sessions.
Their draft paper may also be presented at the main ALSA conference.
💰 Cost
No registration fee for JSW/ECW.
- Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation.
Provided by ALSA/UGM:
- Meals and refreshments during the workshop
- Local transport between hotel and venue
Please note that the selected JSW/ECW participants will be exempted from the ALSA2025 conference registration fee.

- Abstract of your paper (max 200 words)
- Short personal statement (max 250 words) explaining your research interests and motivation to join the workshop
