Selma Zaki

Selma Zaki is the Director of the Community Mental Health Program for Team CommUNITY and is New York State licensed Mental Health Counselor. She has experience in providing therapy services between practices, community mental health centers and a hospital.

In addition to providing therapy services, Selma has experience in conducting qualitative research and has been published in the Journal of Counseling Psychology for studying the experiences of gender among Arab American Women. Selma has also led the 2020 Community Health Research Report at Team CommUNITY: https://www.digitalrights.community/chr2020

Selma’s goals as a mental health professional, an academic and a social justice advocate is to initiate change on an individual and a collective level. What brings her clinical, research and community development experience together is the firm belief that healing, growth and liberation begin in spaces that foster open communication and encourage in-depth understanding.

Psychosocial Circle x Team CommUNITY
Selma Zaki

A psychosocial circle is a group session led by a mental health professional from Team CommUNITY. It is an opportunity for Arabic-speaking region Digital rights defenders to come together share and process experiences related to their mental and community health. Through the group, defenders will be able to relate to one another as well as learn coping mechanisms that can support them.

The session will run for 90 minutes and will include: breathe-work, movement, reflection and discussion. The session can hold up to 12 individuals.
