"Wait, Who is Timothy McVeigh?”: Why localizing tech policies has to start with communities - Part 2 : Panel Discussion
11-17, 16:30–17:30 (Asia/Beirut), Station

The panel discussion will focus on how the findings of a Internews and Localization Lab's recent review of Facebook and YouTube's content moderation policies in Amharic, Arabic, Bengali, and Hindi illuminates critical issues in policy, platform, and product localization and social inclusion online. The discussion will focus on why localization matters, how localization impacts all aspects of content moderation and platform governance, how platforms can provide clear and usable translations, as well as why community-based localization is critical to creating industry standards in the ways that platforms translate public-facing documents.
