, Track 2
IPv6 makes up nearly 50% of internet traffic, it can automatically configure itself on a network and all modern devices have IPv6 enabled by default. About time we took notice? This talk will give a crash course into what IPv6 is, why it is an attackers dream and why we need to secure it now.
In a different time before even the term computer virus was invented we created IPv4, then the internet became quite popular and like all good things we feasted on IPv4 addresses like no tomorrow. Well tomorrow has arrived and we've ran out of IPv4 addresses. But fear not, for IPv6 is here! Yes, this was also said by someone 20 years ago. But this time it is different.
Over the past 20 years IPv6 has been making calculated moves winning adoption battles along the way and is now everywhere whether you know it or not. Fuelled by government mandates and the rising costs of IPv4, the next generation of the internet is here. It is time we started to take notice of IPv6 and the security issues it presents. IPv6 is a protocol that is enabled on virtually every endpoint, can be reenabled easily and is remotely targetable by attackers.
This talk will give a crash course into what IPv6 is, why we have it, the security issues and security benefits that IPv6 offers.
Studied Aerospace Engineering at Uni, but realised computers are more interesting than things that fly. Then discovered computer science is way more difficult than rocket science. Spent most of my career in cyber threat research and building security strategies and implementing those for businesses around the globe.
