Introduction: Information literacy instruction is vital for ensuring that medical learners can effectively incorporate evidence into clinical practice. However, efforts to instruct this group can be hindered by curriculum schedules, and clinical supervisors’ information practices can influence learners in the real-world environment.
Description: To strengthen learners’ information skills in the clinic, a continuing professional development (CPD) course titled 'Bringing Information Literacy into your Clinical Teaching' was developed for medical school faculty. Guided by adult learning theory and principles of instructional design, this asynchronous course explores facets of information literacy and evidence-based practice in the modern clinical setting, while incorporating teaching pearls to help clinical educators have conversations about these topics with medical learners. By integrating the perspectives of an experienced CPD educator and physician colleagues, this course was also designed to meet professional accreditation standards.
Outcomes: The course launched in the winter of 2026, and while it is still gaining momentum this presentation will provide an in-depth overview of the course’s conceptualization, its design elements, and its content. It will also discuss lessons learned when expanding one-shot content for wider use, finding confidence when teaching in new formats, and the importance of support networks when evolving as an educator.
Discussion: Libraries are key partners in supporting learner growth in the clinical environment. By using a ‘train the trainer’ approach to teach information literacy in a medical school setting, library instruction can continue shaping learner practices for years to come.
