Impact of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia Library Closure: A Qualitative Study

Language: English

Introduction: The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) announced the closure of their library in March 2024, leaving some physicians without library services due to a lack of academic or health authority affiliation. The CPSBC Library supported all registered physicians in BC with traditional library services, such as self-service resources, mediated literature searches and full-text article retrieval.

Objective(s): To understand how the closure of the CPSBC Library affected the work of physicians in BC.

Methods: Using a qualitative descriptive design methodology, we will conduct semi-structured interviews with 15-20 physicians about their experience using the CPSBC Library and of its closure. All interviews will be transcribed and then analyzed using deductive and inductive thematic analysis.

Results: We have currently completed interviews with 17 physicians and will update to include our results if accepted.
