Climate Arena: Call for session proposals

Climate Arena Conference for Journalists and Scientists in Europe, 18-19 October 2024, Bologna - Italy

Send us your ideas! We are looking to feature investigative and data-driven projects, and innovative storytelling methods related to the climate crisis.

We are particularly interested in:

  • sessions on journalistic or scientific methods uncovering greenwashing, lobbying, and government or industry action that fuel the climate crisis.
  • hands-on workshops that would teach a tool, method or a hard/soft skill that can be used in climate investigations.
  • hearing about issues such as the social impact of climate migration, our food systems, water, agriculture, chemical pollution and biodiversity loss, as well as experiences on how to tell these stories in a way that engages audiences.

If you are eager to share your experiences and methods to shed light on these critical issues and inspire journalists, Climate Arena invites you to pitch your session proposal now.

We are looking for the following types of sessions:

  • Workshops and hands-on sessions: e.g. instructions about techniques and methodologies that can be applied in new contexts or showcasing new databases, archives or other resources/tools useable for journalistic research
  • Moderated panels of around three journalists/scientists/experts focusing on a topic
  • Networking sessions based on research interests or methods
  • Roundtable meetings for planning and coordinating collaboration ideas
  • Screenings of journalism documentaries or photo-exhibitions

If you have a different format in mind, pitch it! We are always open to new approaches.

This conference aims to benefit Europe-based colleagues and our idea of Europe includes 46 Council of Europe member states.

We pay a lot of attention to gender balanced setup and participation from all across Europe in each of our sessions. And we encourage journalists from Eastern and Southern European countries (especially Italy) to send us their ideas.

If you need more information on what and how to pitch, check out the overview on What makes a great Climate Arena session.
