DESCRIPTION:Cycling is widely promoted as a sustainable and healthy mode o
 f transport\, but safety concerns remain a barrier to wider uptake. As cit
 ies continue to invest in cycling infrastructure\, there is a need for met
 hods that capture how cyclists interact with and respond to these environm
 ents under real-world conditions. Existing approaches to cyclist safety as
 sessment\, including crash statistics\, surveys\, and traffic conflict ana
 lysis\, offer useful perspectives but often lack continuous\, fine-grained
  measurements of cyclist behaviour and responses during everyday riding. C
 ommercial cycling computers and fitness-oriented devices\, by contrast\, a
 re primarily designed for performance tracking and navigation and offer li
 mited support for capturing safety-related interactions with the road envi
 ronment. \nThis work presents CREDA (Cyclist and Road Environment Data Ana
 lytics)\, a bicycle-mounted multimodal sensing platform for collecting det
 ailed data on cyclists’ interactions with the road environment. The syst
 em combines bicycle-mounted sensors for measuring proximity\, inertial mea
 surement\, GPS-based positioning\, environmental conditions\, and physiolo
 gical responses\, together with first-person video recordings. These synch
 ronized data streams support event-level analysis of cyclists’ interacti
 ons with traffic\, infrastructure\, and surrounding environmental conditio
 ns\, enabling the detection and analysis of safety-critical events during 
 naturalistic cycling trips. By relating behavioural\, environmental\, and 
 physiological measurements to specific road locations\, CREDA aims to exam
 ine how different road environments shape cyclists’ experiences and to s
 upport improved methods for evaluating cycling infrastructure and informin
 g safer road design.
