DESCRIPTION:The Domain Name System (DNS) is a critical component of the Int
ernet infrastructure\, responsible for translating human-readable domain n
ames into machine-readable IP addresses. However\, the\nincreasing centra
lization of DNS traffic through large content-delivery hyper-giants (such
as Google)\, coupled with the fact that the majority of DNS communication
traditionally runs over unencrypted transports (UDP/TCP)\, has led to incr
eased security and privacy concerns. In this talk\, I will\npresent recent
results on the resiliency and efficiency of DNS\, the state of adoption o
f protocols that enable DNS privacy and their performance implications. I
will conclude with a future outlook of a protocol design whereby tradition
al communications no longer have to trade performance for privacy\, but ca
n achieve the best of both worlds: privacy-enhancing DNS + secure communic
 ation on the Web.
