Effective Cost Attribution in Multi-User OpenShift Environment
06-15, 09:30–10:05 (Europe/Prague), D105 (capacity 300)

Our OpenShift CI environment has experienced explosive growth in recent years. It not only serves OpenShift itself but also incubates open-source projects and handles around 30% of workloads unrelated to OpenShift directly. While our initial policy was permissive, the financial burden posed by newcomers prompted us to implement solutions for accurate cost attribution. This talk delves into our journey, showcasing how we leverage concepts like cluster profiles and dedicated cluster pools, both utilizing user-provided cloud accounts. We will underline the significance of in-depth spend analysis via metrics to achieve cost clarity. Additionally, we will explore the user perspective, highlighting how facing their allocated costs empowered users to make informed decisions for more efficient resource management.
