Jean-Luc Beuchat

After completing a PhD in computer arithmetic in 2001 at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Jean-Luc Beuchat pursued his career as a researcher at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France), where he specialized in the design of cryptographic processors. Leveraging this experience, he contributed to a technology transfer project between academia and industry in Japan, designing an integrated circuit to accelerate the computation of pairings on elliptic curves.

In 2007, Jean-Luc Beuchat was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Tsukuba (Japan), where he led a team dedicated to developing software and hardware libraries for cryptographic primitives. His innovative approach involved simultaneously studying arithmetic, architectural, and algorithmic aspects. His work was recognized with two Best Paper Awards at CHES, the leading international conference on embedded cryptography.

Back in Switzerland since 2013, Jean-Luc Beuchat first joined ELCA as an expert in computer security. He led cybersecurity projects for non-governmental organizations, banks, and federal offices. Since 2019, he has been a professor at HES-SO Valais-Wallis, where he teaches cybersecurity and conducts research and development projects related to cryptographic key management, electronic identity, and cloud data encryption.
