Contributing to open source can be both exciting and intimidating for newcomers. As a Djangonaut space participant, I contributed to Django-Unicorn under the guidance of project maintainers called Navigators. In this talk, I'll share my journey, challenges, and lessons learnt, highlighting the impact of guidance in open source and the importance of programmes like Djangonaut Space.
This talk will focus on the insights from my experience in the program.
It will include:
- My application Process
- Getting accepted and joining my team (Team Venus – Session 2)
- The theme and structure of the program and teams
- Highlighting the project I worked on (Django-Unicorn) and the pull requests I made (including challenges faced).
- Giving back to the community by applying and getting accepted as a captain twice.
The key takeaway is to inspire and guide attendees interested in contributing to Django and Django-related packages on the importance of programs like Djangonaut space.
