Teamlead of the VDAB Drupal team and volunteer with the Drupal User Group Belgium
VDAB is the Flemish Public Employment Service.
We have 4 big Drupal sites that are each a platform for functionality and a portal to info: www.vdab.be for all the Flemish citizens and those who want to work and learn in Flanders, a site for employers, a site for partners and an intranet.
I used to be quite timid, but working in the tourist industry for a season or two after leaving school, I had to learn so much in so short a time. Main thing is that networking and connecting is a thing that can be learned.
Most people don't get started without a bit of help, but next steps do come easier, by doing and seeing others do.
Within the Drupal community, I am not a developer, but I do not let that stop me from connecting with all those amazing, generous people.
Sessions
Short session about what the local vzw is doing. Q&A Following after that.
"Come for the code stay for the community!" they say, but how to get talking?
Wait till I feel technically senior enough? But I hear that most learning happens in between sessions?
Everybody seems to have fun, but I am: new here / timid / feeling way too: junior / impostor / awkward
Take courage, you are not alone, there are hacks, and best if all, this community is perfectly safe for flight testing your wings.
So let's have a conversation about networking, what it is and isn't, what you are doing already, tips and tricks and more.
Lets share our fears and most importantly, lets take those first not so scary steps together. It gets better fast I assure you.
