Governance can be a pain in the @$^ so why do we even bother? In this talk we'll go over why governance is worth dealing with, some of the well known high stakes issues, and some lesser understood pitfalls.
In this talk, I draw on my experience as a Governance Facilitator at MakerDAO, as well as my academic background in political science, to delve into the convoluted yet crucial world of governance. The very mention of "governance" often elicits eye-rolls or expletives, leaving many to question its necessity. Despite the complications and high-stress stakes involved, governance serves as the backbone for any functioning system—be it a decentralized financial platform or a sovereign nation. I'll tackle some of the headline-grabbing challenges, such as power centralization and voter apathy, that plague both traditional and decentralized governance systems. But I'll also shine a light on the subtler pitfalls that are often overlooked, mainly maintaining legitimacy.
