What are DAOs actually, and what can existing companies learn from them? This talk introduces the concept of the Capture-Resistant Organization to answer both of these questions.
DAOs are a brand new organizational form, but they remain ill-understood even by their strongest proponents. This talk introduces a new concept — the Capture-Resistant Organization — to better understand what DAOs, why they are important, and what existing companies can learn from them. We'll explore the property of capture-resistance itself, what organizations stand to gain from it, and how they can achieve it.
Spencer is a DAO operator, mechanism designer, and smart contract engineer. He has been enamored with Ethereum since 2017 and has worked full time for and in DAOs since 2020, primarily with Raid Guild and DAOhaus. Based on his experiences in DAOs, Spencer cofounded Hats Protocol to help DAOs and other organizations be capture-resistant and get work done effectively.
