Call for Talks & Workshops
FOSS4G is the international conference on open source geospatial software, so every submission should revolve around open source software in some way:
- the open source geospatial software you work on and how it works,
- how you use open source geospatial software to solve your problems,
- how open source geospatial software makes your organization better,
- what you learned from working with open source geospatial software,
- an important problem you solved with open source geospatial software,
- your work or your organizations work and how open source geospatial software have effected them
- and so on.
Have a look at accepted talks for prior years (2019, 2018, 2017), to get a feel for the kind of topics that make up a FOSS4G presentation program.
Talks
- Talks are usually verbal presentations with an audio-visual component in the form of a slide deck or live demonstration. There have been musical and dramatic presentations in the past, but those are rare events.
- Talk slots are a total of 25 minutes for the talk and Q&A, with 5 minutes between presentations for presenters to set up and the audience to change rooms as desired.
- A limited number of "XL Talk"" slots (55 minutes) will be offered to speakers with popular topics, as determined by community review and the Program Committee. If you are interested in a longer slot, check the XL Talk option during submission.
Workshops
- Workshops are hands-on teaching sessions, 3 hours in length.
- Workshops are usually organized around teaching a specific FOSS4G software package, through some kind of practical problem solving.
- Workshops will be held in the conference center, on the day before the start of the presentation programme.
- Students will be encouraged to bring their own laptops.
- Teachers should be prepared to provide students with container images, VM images, or login to cloud systems to support quick set-up times and avoid installation snafus.
