by Dr. Libby Heaney, Visual artist with PhD in Quantum Information Science
Drawing on my training in both visual art & quantum science, this talk seeks to open up new transdisciplinary conversations around quantum computing. Through a series of images, videos & sensory experiments using quantum data (IBM’s systems/Qiskit software), I will talk about current, future & speculative uses of quantum computing. As an artist, I’m really interested in future impacts of technology. In an imminent quantum-age, who or what will be empowered by quantum computing & who will be disempowered? Where might the current trends in quantum computing lead? And what alternative realities might quantum computers build? I’ll end by talking about my forthcoming commission with Berlin’s Light Art Space - one of the first major artworks with quantum computing. As you sink into my visual experiments, I will invite you to ponder these questions & join the debate around this powerful new epoch-making technology.
