Stochastic Hydrodynamics in the Cell
Patrick Kelly
The cytoplasm of the eukaryotic cell is a low Reynolds number multi-component gel. We model the hydrodynamic coupling between the fluid component of the cytoplasm and the immersed solid components using the stochastic immersed boundary method. We develop a Julia GPU based implementation which allows us to simulate system sizes of several cubic microns for tens of seconds. This will enable us to study the advection-diffusion of cytoskeletal filaments, which was previously inaccessible.
