The State of GLAM Wiki session aims to cover the major accomplishments of the cultural and heritage work in the Wikimedia community in the last year (or two) and to discuss new work and horizons.
This session will consist of a background talk on the state of GLAM Wiki for newcomers, a series of lightning talks from different folks in the GLAM space, and a roundtable discussion on future directions and projects.
The State of GLAM Wiki session aims to cover the major accomplishments of the cultural and heritage work in the Wikimedia community in the last year (or two) and to discuss new work and horizons.
A composite format for this session will consist of a background talk on the state of GLAM Wiki for newcomers (10-15 mins), a series of lightning talks from different folks in the GLAM space (5 mins x 8-10), and a roundtable discussion on future directions and projects.
Current plans include participation from GLAM groups such as Wikimedians in Residence Exchange Network and the Wikimedia Foundation GLAM team, but other groups including librarians and cultural heritage affiliates are most welcome.
Topics to discuss include but are not limited to:
1. Best recent practices for GLAM work, including the development of tools and capabilities
2. Experiences and use of Structured Data on Commons in GLAM work
3. Challenges ahead and a wishlist for new capabilities and tools
4. Experiences in bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices to GLAM work
5. Reporting outcomes and communicating GLAM Wiki work to the public
6. Building new partnerships and GLAM Wiki participation
7. Coordination for better future collaboration (eg. future GLAM Wiki conference)
