Painting with Code in p5.js

Create a dynamic brush and make generative art in an hour long introductory workshop to p5.js! P5.js is a free, accessible, and open source Javascript library library for creative coding. As we’ll be using the p5.js web editor in this workshop, no setup is required - all you need is a computer and an internet connection.

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

To provide a starting point to p5.js and the world of creative coding. At the end of the workshop, I want the participants to be familiar with the p5.js library and web editor and to have the inspiration to continue to use the p5.js editor.

We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

I already run a twitch channel called CozyCoding where I stream my p5.js projects, sketches, and explorations on a weekly basis. After participating in this workshop, participants can make an account on the p5.js web editor to save their sketch and use the knowledge they gained from the workshop to make more to share with others.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:

I plan on sharing my screen or streaming my typical stream output to the participants so they can see exactly what I’m doing and follow along. I also plan to provide a link to my sketch that auto saves so they can view and remix my project to create something of their own. If anyone has questions or if they are stuck, they can share a link to their current project and I can help them debug. I believe this will work for small and large numbers of attendees
