While the goal of many digital spaces has been about inclusivity, equality, and diversity, the needs of neurodivergent individuals have continued to progress in relation to digital communities. While many digital spaces, presentations, and events are designed for a neurotypical audience, the needs of neurodivergent attendees, participants, and guests to digital spaces must be considered and applied in order to be equitable from the start. This presentation will detail how organizations creating digital spaces (such as a forum, Slack, Discord server, etc.), experiences/events, and communities can create, maintain, and grow their platform with neurodivergent people and their experiences not only in mind, but in focus.
I will be writing a blog post about my presentation, and will also circulate the talk itself on Twitter/social media to encourage people to register for MozFest.
What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:To educate, facilitate discussion around, and brainstorm solutions towards making online events, spaces, and digital events more equitable for those that are neurodivergent. Attendees will take away practical advice which they can then implement at their own organization in order to craft more equitable, inclusive, and welcoming digital experiences for ND individuals.
How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:Whether 30 or 3 participants, I will give the same session with the same helpful information. If there are fewer participants, I will endeavor to have more audience participation and will allow for more time for questions and answers.
