Open Hardware Treasure Hunt! Navigate the open waters of hardware-making towards community and collaboration

Open Hardware Treasure Hunt in an online game that will let you experience first hand what is and why it’s important to have more open hardware around the world. Inspired in our mentorship program “Open Hardware Makers”, you will join a 60’ online activity that will take you on a journey through what makes an open hardware project great. Be ready to follow the traces we will have prepared for you all across the web! Navigate open repositories, find patterns in documentation, check for accessibility hints… And make sure you get the treasure in the end!

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

Our goal is to share best practices for the development of open source hardware in a fun and experiential way, trying to get participants to understand the relevance of open hardware for our everyday lives. Participants will also learn about our mentorship program by participating in a hands-on activity that will serve to demonstrate the program content and how their projects can benefit from it.

We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

During the treasure hunt participants will learn about the golden standard of building open hardware. They’ll be encouraged to apply for “Open Hardware Makers” online training series to dive deeper into the topic and to kick-start their own project. When they take part in the program they will learn best practices with more time and detail. We are also going to offer participants to keep in touch on “one on one” basis via email, or other social media, in case they don’t feel ready to interact with very public platforms like internet forums.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:

We are three facilitators for this session that have already organized and hosted multiple workshops. The treasure hunt is 100% scalable to the number of participants as we will leave hints and tasks around the web that they can follow in a decentralized way.

Lorem Ipsum

Most of the time I'm doing research on open science hardware and activating networks around that. I also enjoy reading and making comics, playing the clarinet and cooking.

I love 3D printing, recreating scientific instruments and getting lost on unnecessary nerdy projects.
