'On this Side of The Web' is a short film by youth-led organization Digital Grassroots that portrays key barriers to digital inclusion for young people and marginalized groups.
The short film 'On this Side of the Web' builds upon Digital Grassroots past Mozfest session titled 'Localizing Internet Governance' where we explored what it takes to give internet users ownership of the communications infrastructure they use. This short film also builds upon Digital Grassroots work which is to increase digital citizenship in underrepresented communities. Therefore, this film is part of our ongoing work to raise awareness on the internet reality happening at the grassroots level.
What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:The goal of this session is to bring young people and internet industry leaders together, for cross-knowledge sharing on how to bridge the digital divide. The film will offer detailed storytelling of how underserved regions remain on the other side of the digital divide and explores what can be done about it.
The outcome of this session will be to:
1. Show how the digital divide affects different regions in diverse ways
2. Offer a roadmap for internet industry leaders to bridge the digital divide in a multistakeholder way
3. To get feedback from participants on the short film
This is a film screening, and therefore can cater to any number of participants. Given that this is an online event, we can invite session participants to submit any questions or contributions they have in regard to this film prior to the event.
