Firefox Add-ons team members Philipp Kewisch, Caitlin Neiman, and Andreas Wagner would like to host a session for members of the add-ons developer community to learn more about how they can build trust with users of their extensions by following Mozilla's best practices for data handling and collection. Using Mozilla's principles for lean data practices and data privacy principles, the team will help participants think through and design experiences that help users understand how and why their data is being collected and honor user choices to opt in or out of data collection.
We'd love to publish a recording of our session to our Firefox Extension Workshop site so that non-attending developers can have access to it and hopefully learn from it. We will also plan to share a write-up of the event with our developer audience.
Based on questions or conversations we have during the session, we may be able to follow up with attendees to research potential opportunities for future feature development.
What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:We want developers to feel like they have a better understanding of the topic being discussed and that they will be able to apply learnings to their development process.
The facilitators would also like to have the opportunity to talk directly with add-on developers to get a better understanding of their experiences and to help answer questions.
How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:The core of the presentation should be able to stay intact regardless of how many attendees participate. If we have a high attendance, we will have to limit the Q&A to a reasonable time frame which means that we may need to respond async to some people. If we only have a few attendees, we can spend more hands on time engaging the developers in conversation, and end the session early if necessary.
