Tech Utopia’s: let’s reimagine the future

Tech Utopia’s: let’s reimagine the future’; is a participatory workshop where as a community, we will use art to imagine a different digital future. Ran by Identity 2.0, a multidisciplinary design studio that empowers people to explore their digital identity, the workshop will be group discussion and prototyping sessions. Using Identity 2.0’s Future Manifesto as a source of inspiration, we will then ask participants to dream of their tech utopias, and to display it using whatever art medium they want. Through conversations and speculative design, we will at once invent and reinvent how we communicate progress. Whether that's in the form of an exhibition, meme or play doh sculpture, no idea is disregarded.

We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

Being a creative studio, we will also be working with the participants to develop their ideas.. As we only have time to create prototypes during this session, we want to help participants that can bring these ideas to life, just as we have done. So, after the workshop we will be offering participants the chance to chat with us, to see if there’s any way we can help bring their ideas to life. Whether this means working with us, or simply helping create a project plan - we want to create as many alternative futures as possible using every art form! By sharing how we create art around technology, we hope to inspire others. We will be using the work produced in these workshops to inspire our next creation! When we have run these creative workshops, they have directly contributed to the creation of our digital exhibition CTRL +U.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:

This majority of the workshop is discussion-based, so it's easily adapted based on the number of participants. The goal is to create an environment where participants feel comfortable to prototype, share and enjoy imagining a different future. We feel we can achieve this no matter how many people are involved.

With larger groups, breakout rooms will be used, so we can create more space where participants feel comfortable to share. As the facilitators, we will jump between break out rooms to provide any support, guidance and to connect to everyone who is in the session. With smaller groups, (e.g 3-5 participants) we will keep the conversation in one space. Once we hit 12 participants or more, we will start with two breakout rooms, and increase the number of breakout rooms as participant numbers vary.
