In the last ten years, we have seen increasing expectations for organisations to report on, act on, and advocate for neurodiverse individuals in their workplaces.
Many organisations want to ‘get it right’ and to unlock the unique strengths of neurodiverse talent. But they are not sure where to get started or invest significant resources with mediocre results. So, what does good practise look like?
In this session, we are joined by neurodiversity specialists Aidan Healy, CEO of Lexxic and Antony Ruck, Vice-Chair of the British Assistive Technology Association.
Through presentation, discussion and interaction with participants, we will cover;
• The neurodiversity paradigm
•How organisations can create more inclusive environments and empower neurodiverse individuals
• Good practice examples of inclusive technology
• Case studies of organisations
• Our own experiences of what works and what does not
We are both experienced presenters and are used to either of those outcomes! If a small number of people attend, it allows us to engage with the participants more intimately and tailor the content so it adds the most value to them. If no one is willing to speak or participate via the chat function, we can continue discussing case studies and good practice.
If there are a lot of participants attending, we would suggest using the chat function to ask questions as well as calling on individuals to make contributions. This way we can get through as many questions and comments as possible while still allowing people to engage.
We can also potentially use breakout rooms, each facilitated by one of us, to get participants talking and engaged. Once we have a clearer idea of participants registrations, we can create a plan in collaboration with the organisers.
This goal of this session is to drive awareness and educate around the subject matter. Provide solutions, techniques, and recommendations on how organisations can create a more inclusive working environment which will empower neurodiverse individuals helping them to thrive in their roles. Aidan will explore neurodiversity through the lens of a business psychologist and Antony through the lens of an assistive technology specialist
We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:- We can host a follow-up session in consultation with the event organisers.
- We could create a blog or video which shares our learnings from the session that could be circulated by the event organisers.
- At the end of our session, we will ask participants to fill out a call to action. It will include one thing they would like to do or change in the next three months.
- At the end of the three months, Lexxic will contact them to see how they have progressed on their goals.
- We are happy to offer follow up support or any challenges they might be facing.
