Cyberwars and Why Only You Can Stop Them

Digital Peace Now is a global movement of digital citizens who demand that nations stop engaging in cyberwarfare and start working together to protect citizens from nation-backed cyberattacks that threaten our modern world.

In this session, we will engage more deeply on what cyberwarfare is, and how it affects each of us. Participants will start with a quick 5-question quiz to demonstrate the prevalence and depth of cyber attacks. Next, participants will enter breakout rooms where their small team can brainstorm and discuss solutions on how to hold cyber attackers accountable while also protecting the internet we know and love.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:

Depending on the tool used, Zoom and Icebreaker allow breakout sessions and forming smaller groups from larger ones. We want participants to be active, learning about the basics of cyberwarfare from Digital Peace Now, but then having the freedom to dive deeper and explore with other audience members.

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

.

We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

Audience members can subscribe to our monthly newsletter, which outlines all of the most prominent cyber attacks that occurred that month, and shares must-read stories from around the web. Our Twitter handle is also updated daily with the latest cyber news.

Digital Peace Now is a non-profit, but we will be launching a series of competitions on various social channels--like TikTok, Snap, and Twitch--to add more voices to these pressing issues and amplify existing activists. While we have programming planned, we welcome collaborations, especially with artists, techo-activists, and community members dedicated to protecting the internet and digital tools from malicious uses by nations.
