Mozilla Festival 2021 (March 8th – 19th, 2021)

Mozilla Festival 2021 (March 8th – 19th, 2021)

Stories from Africa, by Africans for Africans

The session would begin with a presentation of the work of an online story telling platform called Talents of Nairobi (@TalentsofNairobi on all Social Media Platforms). The work of Talents of Nairobi is shining a spotlight on authentic African stories with the hope of reclaiming the power of African stories. The scope of the presentation would set the pace for the discussion to be carried out for the rest of the session. The idea is to have a discussion on how to leverage the increased access to the internet all across the African continent to reclaim the power of telling African stories in their most authentic sense, free from the need to pander to a gaze or to fit pre-conveived notions.

We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

The work of my session will be continued online, through an already established online story telling platform that will continue to shoot, produce, curate and share stories that align to the subject of this session. Hopefully, through the community created at Mozfest, the platform will increase its reach and the purpose of the platform and session will continue to be served even after the festival.
Through the online platforms, I hope to continue convening interactive sessions where the discourse that starts at Mozfest will continue.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:

Whether I have 3 or 30 people, the discussion would still continue. If there is a small number of people, I imagine a situation where there is more one on one interaction where everyone can speak, engage, ask and answer questions. If there is a big number of participants, then for a fruitful discussion, some level of organisation would be required. This would involve coordinated Q&As where the moderator reads and answers, as well as use of polls and breakout rooms to ensure that there is useful interactions.
