In 2005 the internet was a free space. Creators could upload and share music, stories, videos, technology and stunning images. People around the world enjoyed the unlimited creativity of uploaders and their own freedom of speech without being censored.
Today, our digital lives are increasingly centralized on platforms controlled by fewer and fewer large corporations. Content creators are subjected to unfair platform agreements and denied the right to self-determination. Great original content is taken down before consumers can enjoy it.
Society took a wrong turn, right? The team of Free Music Archive (FMA) invites you to co-create a fair, sustainable future for creators, consumers, and “open internet” enthusiasts. Your participation is important, because your input, small or big, can help us influence the future of musicians and music lovers tomorrow.
We participate in and facilitate dozens of online events every year and we have seen it all: sessions where we expected 20 and only 5 attended or sessions for typically 10-20 and 50+ join in.
Our strategy is to prepare everything in detail (including a plan B and C). So if only a few participants join, our plan is to make the (virtual) circle smaller and invite participants to share their experience, ideas, and suggestions in a respectful and safe environment. With larger audiences, we will normally invite participants up front to do a quiz; a fun survey. The output will give us a good idea about the audience, their background, level of knowledge, etc. With larger groups, we will most likely have 2-3 plenary sessions and 1-2 breakout sessions.
We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:We have an open-door policy to all creators, communities, and individuals out there. Any ideas, sparks, suggestions, or new connections during MozFest will continue new discussions, open dialogues, projects, and successes.
To continue the conversation, MozFest participants will be invited to join our communication channels on Slack, BaseCamp, DEV, our own community portals, or by sending us an email or schedule an online meeting. We are enthusiastic to meet everyone online.
In the last 6 months, with the new normal, we have organized online video calls, interviews, surveys, round tables and knowledge sessions with our target audience: musicians, netlabels, curators, end-users, and stakeholders sharing insights on web monetization tooling opportunities. Over 4,000 participants gave their feedback!
What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:x
