The objective is to get people of different ages and regional and thematic backgrounds to deliberate on strategies for digital sustainability that take into account that the Internet affects our environment, our societies, our economies, and governance structures. All of these aspects interlink in order to be more digitally sustainable going forward. The basis of this exchange is going to be the recently drafted Youth4DigitalSustainability Recommendations (https://yigf.de/news/12-youth-recommendations-for-a-sustainable-internet/), that were developed by young experts from all world regions and presented to the Internet Governance Forum. In the methodologies of “guerilla writing” and open deliberative exchange, the workshop participants will be asked to share their perspectives on the recommendations, and together define points of action and concrete advocacy. The session will be based on speech and collaborative writing so that people with different abilities and different communication styles can actively contribute.
Depending on the number of participants, we might split into breakout rooms or stay in the plenary in order to freely deliberate on the 12 recommendations. As these twelve messages relate to the four thematic tracks of the Youth4DigitalSustainability initiative (Greening the Internet, Internet For Social Cohesion, Fair Digital Businesses, and Sustainable Governance of the Internet), breakout rooms will have great utility, in the case of a greater number of participants. With the envisioned high interaction level, co-facilitators will guide the participants in their exchange, but also synthesize their contributions on an interactive virtual whiteboard. In case of very few participants, the session would take a more intimate roundtable character, while with more participants, different levels of input through moderated discussion, chat, and whiteboard engagement would ensure that no ideas are lost in the process, and everyone can follow the co-creation process.
What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:As we will be working in the context of a continuous process, the inputs we gather in the workshop will directly influence the action plan to the Youth4DigitalSustainability Recommendations. The tangible outcome shall be a living document that is co-created by participants, and then continually developed and contextualized by all who want to be constructively transfer the points of action into their work. During the session, through a mapping of the discussion, an interactive virtual whiteboard will be created and the working outcomes made available for contributions.
We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:Participants and other interested people will be invited to stay in this open dialogue after the end of the session as we will offer the option of joining a dedicated Slack space. The outcomes of the session in form of a report will be shared with the Youth4DigitalSustainability working groups, on the website https://yigf.de as well as via the Twitter account @YouthIGFSummit, so that the wider networks of participants can have access to the ideas created in the workshop.
