Open Questions in a Warming World: Defining Our Audience

This session is follow up from a session held at the Creative Commons Global Summit 2020: https://medium.com/creative-commons-we-like-to-share/open-questions-in-a-warming-world-37346ffef6cb. This follow up will try to better explore who is missing in the conversation at the intersection of the open and the climate movement.

This workshop will generate ideas and questions about the underlying implications of open culture and copyright in a warming world. Open Access in science and research is key to the bodies of knowledge and scholarship for identifying the problems and solutions for climate change. But there are likely other ways in which the open movement could advance “everyday” solutions to climate change, from unlocking easy and digestible climate information, to documenting the consequences of climate change. This workshop will generate ideas about potential approaches to activate open communities in addressing the climate crisis.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session?:

We'll be using Mentimeter & Jamboard to make this an interactive session, and we can accommodate to varying participants quite easily. We'll probably have more than 3 people attending, because we already have 3 presenters.

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

The main focus of the workshop is to start a conversation around how we can better take some steps and actions that help spreading relevant information to raise awareness around the current climate crisis.

We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after Mozfest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

This session is a follow-up of a session we've already proposed. This time we'll be including other people that we met at the CC Summit session, and we expect other people will come along. We're planning on starting some type of lightweight engagement (probably in the format of community calls) sometime in the fall of 2021.
