The purpose and ultimate goal of the session would be to provide a dynamic and interactive space that participants and attendees can use to network with each other and further their understanding of the role gender, race, sexual orientation, caste, geographical location and other social factors play in tech policy and regulation of AI. robos of Tech Law and Policy (r-TLP), through its blog, has worked on identifying and bringing to the front, key issues at the intersection of tech and gender and functions to provide a platform for people of marginalised genders to publish their work and engage with others interested in this space. The discussion would function as an essential limb of furthering the social movement around tech policy both from a global and individual stakeholder perspective and the intention would be to connect people that are interested or passionate in this space with other like-minded individuals from a diverse background with their own enriching experiences who would be attending MozFest and otherwise.
Mozfest would be an incredible opportunity for a platform like r-TLP, which aims to make tech policy and publication of writing on tech policy more accessible. It would enable us to connect with people who share similar interests and, more importantly, widen our audience to make people more sensitive towards our goal of representation and a gendered understanding of technology and its regulation.
Through MozFest, we intend to primarily connect with individuals transcending our operational and geographic boundaries, take advantage of the internet’s border less nature, and facilitate interactions between participants in this session to provide further opportunities to discuss issues with a more nuanced multi-stakeholder perspective.
The space and reach provided through this session will undeniably further the objectives and purpose of r-TLP. Through this event, we will be able to discuss and explore issues related with the intersection of technology, gender, and policy. r-TLP was founded with a goal to create a space that supports and encourages marginalised gender identities to find a community of like minded individuals and to connect and engage with them in a fulfilling manner. We also seek to learn from a diverse community in order to form and deepen a strong sense of community and bonding through the interactions between individuals.
How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:The interactions will be conducted over Zoom with an overall time frame of 45-60 minutes. At least 4 facilitators will be present from r-TLP’s end at the session. At the outset, the participants will be given a brief introduction to the format of the discussion. Participants shall then be divided into break out rooms for a more structured discussion. We intend to identify key talking points from our interactions with the participants, such as their experiences of different global realities of how marginalisation plays into the technological space. After the end of each session, we will return to the main meeting and briefly outline the takeaways from each room. The number of break out rooms would depend on the number of participants attending the session and they will be accommodated accordingly.
The last ten minutes of the session will be dedicated to closing remarks and conclusions.
Post MozFest, we intend to publish a note on our platform detailing the ways that this form of community building helps increase and facilitate more nuanced discussion in the tech policy space from a multi-stakeholder and international perspective. The note would also address other possible outcomes, including collaborative efforts between the participants, such as research opportunities and co-authorship of written pieces. We hope to connect with people and gauge the resources and communities that already exist in this space and how these can be utilised to mutually benefit the participants and other interested groups.
Additionally, we intend to invite the participants to write for us and collaborate with us on issues in the space that they feel strongly about. r-TLP will provide all publishing and external writing support to such contributors.
