What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

During the COVID shut down, a group of theater & XR creators joined forces to successfully rehearse/perform live theater remotely in open source, browser-based VR (on a custom instance of Mozilla Hubs). We successfully staged/presented the one act play, Jettison, for multiple live virtual audiences at No Proscenium’s Here Festival and were Finalist for The Producer Guild of America’s Innovation Award.

Shortly thereafter, we wanted to see how our work could scale to empower and educate artists all over the world and pivoted to create “a one act play festival in a single web browser” within one month. OnBoardXR has since become a recognized, seasonal, collaborative anthology of groundbreaking, short live performance prototypes in WebXR.

We are now seeking opportunities to present and share our learnings, either through traditional panel/speaking engagements or performing select pieces from the show itself as part of your virtual event.

Why did you choose that space? How does your session align with the space description?:

Our storytelling tradition is at the heart of archiving our culture and language. Many live performing artists and fans are unaware of the potential of webXR to find new voices and new audiences. OnBoardXR offers both entertainment and education, inviting anyone to bring their story into a browser based 3D experience.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:

We are accustomed to variability in our attendance. As we empower audience to choose their level of interaction, some shows we have no "active" participants and instead rely upon our fellow performers to navigate required interactions. The experience is equally enjoyable for passive users who wish to "sit in the dark" and watch the show.

What happens after MozFest? We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after MozFest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

We have been promoting and fostering community in and around the Mozilla ecosystem for over a year and have no intention of stopping. By interfacing with other members of the community and corporate culture, we hope to spread awareness and access to our learnings and experiences.

What language would you like to host your session in?:
