MozFest 2022

Digital Rights Talk - On Identity Online
Language: English (mozilla)

The topic of identity online has never been so relevant. We all live in a world in which we need to register more and more for services if we want to benefit from being online. Not only when we go online via our laptops of phones but also when we want to access public spaces and even bars and restaurants. What happens which my data? Can I control who uses my data? Can I determine who I am online and what does being anonymous online in today’s digital world actually mean? With the rise of digital identity tooling, all sorts of governmental regulations in the making, large corporations providing the most popular applications and privacy breaches everywhere the dialogue on identity online needs to be taken further. Join us during this Digital Rights Talk. You can also access the session here: https://dezwijger.nl/programma/on-identity-online?flush=true

What is the goal and/or outcome of your session?:

To raise awareness, to have a conversation and to generate action points for follow up activities.

Why did you choose that space? How does your session align with the space description?:

Digital human rights. It is important that every person, citizen has more control of her/his identity online and that we as humans have more say in the digital infrastructures being developed. Tech should be for good. When looking at the action areas of UN for 2022...our session fits perfectly in the Area: Put people first in the digital world.

How will you deal with varying numbers of participants in your session? What if 30 participants attend? What if there are 3?:

It is ok. Via the chat in the video tool all participants can comment. The moderator will select and bring into the conversation.

What happens after MozFest? We're hoping that many efforts and discussions will continue after MozFest. Share any ideas you already have for how to continue the work from your session.:

The output of the session will be taken further during new talks and will be brought into the conversation we will be organising during State of Digital Rights on 17 May and at WUF 11 (UN Habitat).

What language would you like to host your session in?:

English
