This highly interactive session will focus on what can be done, from a content governance perspective, to mitigate the potential harm of algorithmic amplification of content to users. The workshop will have 4 discussion leads: Ronaldo Lemos (Oversight Board Member), Anima Anandkumar (NVDIA), Thiago Oliva (Senior Policy Officer, Oversight Board), and Jillian York (EFF). The discussion leads will introduce themselves and a key update that they want to explore in breakout groups. Each breakout group will report back at the end of the session.
Potential breakout group questions include: how to address the potential harm of algorithmic amplification, whether platforms should be more transparent to users about content that has been amplified, how to ensure the fair treatment of users and the potential threat of amplification/de-amplification to it.
This session will help the Oversight Board to expand its knowledge of AI technologies and user impact. Feedback and insight from this session will be integrated into Board learnings as well as future events.
