This interactive discussion session introduces participants to the biases present throughout the AI lifecycle and examines the potential of integrating an intersectional feminist approach into AI development and deployment. Despite significant progress in artificial intelligence, current AI systems often perpetuate existing disparities and inequalities, adversely affecting marginalised and underrepresented communities.
While efforts to create ethical, inclusive AI have been made, these approaches often fall short in addressing power dynamics and their role in perpetuating these issues. This session presents a bold vision for reimagining the AI landscape through the lens of intersectional feminist principles, leveraging their long-standing expertise in challenging the status quo.
This session is a deep dive for participants to explore how societal power imbalances manifest itself in AI systems, what is the status quo and it limitations and how intersectional, feminist principles can help create an AI enabled future that works for all.
Outcomes:
Increased awareness of the importance of intersectional feminist principles in AI.
New perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of incorporating these principles into AI design and development.
Collaborative exploration and engaging in reflexivity for creating a more inclusive AI landscape.
