Democracies need a radical shift in the way they are dealing with the harmful role of social media and other digital platforms in undermining our democracies.
Rather than regulation trying to keep up with technological developments, Defend Democracy proposes to tame the technological transition more pro-actively: in the design phase.
Democracies need to move from regulating content to governing design.
Together with Member of European Parliament Kim van Sparrentak, this session explores how people can shape technology.
Defend Democracy's Founder and Executive Director Alice Stollmeyer has a solid background in science, technology, and society. After her PhD research, Stollmeyer specialised in EU public affairs, strategic communications, and digital advocacy. She now leads Defend Democracy and works on issues related to democracy, security, technology, and geopolitics. She is a leading voice on defending democracy in an age of sharp power and is a trailblazer for societal resilience to hybrid and technological threats to democracy.
