A Conversation with Lucia Martis on Poverty in a Digital World
2024-06-13 , Room A - IJzaal

Exploring the dynamic interplay between technology and urban poverty, delving into both the opportunities and risks

In today's increasingly digital world, virtually every aspect of our lives is migrating online. From banking transactions to government interactions, the conveniences are undeniable, yet so are the challenges, also for those facing economic hardship.

In this conversation with Lucia Martis we dive into this multidisciplinary topic. As the founder and director of ProFor Foundation she helps those in Amsterdam South East when it comes to financial difficulties people face. Everyday Lucia witnesses firsthand the struggles of her community, navigating the complex maze of digital systems, government interactions, and tempting "buy now, pay later" services. As an advocate for social justice, Lucia sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals in a digital world.

We have invited Lina Goelzer and Maudi Bernadina to join this conversation. Both women are experts on the topic of participation and technology. Maudi works with the ProFor Foundation, and Lina is an advisor on participation and AI at the municipality of Amsterdam.

In a collaborative research focusing on the intersection of digitisation and poverty, initiated by Digital Rights House in partnership with the ProFor Foundation, both organisations seek to elevate awareness of the impact of technology on people's daily lives.
This session will be led by Rosa Louwerse (Digital Rights House)
