Is AI coming in peace?
2024-06-12 , Room E - Flexroom

This panel explores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in fostering peace and conflict prevention. We delve into how AI technologies, including machine learning and natural language processing, can be utilized for early warning systems, peacebuilding efforts, and mediation strategies. Real-world examples demonstrate the efficacy of AI in sustaining peace and protecting human rights. Ethical considerations are emphasized, urging technologists to embed ethical principles throughout AI-enabled activities. By bridging the gap between technology and peacebuilding, this session empowers participants to harness AI for positive social impact.

In a world where AI often evokes discussions of warfare, this panel offers a refreshing perspective on its role in peacebuilding. Through case studies and examples, we illustrate how AI tools can revolutionize data collection, uncovering patterns crucial for conflict prevention and resolution. From early warning systems to peacekeeping missions, AI holds promise for mitigating conflicts and safeguarding human security.

However, ethical considerations are paramount. We emphasize the importance of ethical frameworks in AI development and implementation. By highlighting risks and ethical dilemmas, we encourage responsible AI use, ensuring it aligns with peacebuilding objectives and respects human rights. Moreover, this session serves as a motivation for collaboration between technologists and peacebuilders. By showcasing the latest advancements in both fields, we empower technologists to apply their expertise towards peacebuilding initiatives. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, we facilitate the integration of AI into peacebuilding practice, maximizing its potential for positive social change.
