"For every type of information I believe that videos are the way we communicate right now” Shama, former student at the University of Göttingen.
The goal of the liveSciences³ project is to facilitate the international student journey with digital services and enrich it with international teaching and learning opportunities in the life sciences. After 2 years and a half of implementing several measures aimed at helping students to better deal with hurdles on their journeys, we would like to reflect on the teaching and learning aspects and present some of the practices, the formats and lessons learned.
Taking a closer look at the set of measures and instruments carried out throughout the project, one of the media that definitely stood out was video. Audio-visual productions gained a bigger interest and presence throughout the project. At this stage, a series of lessons learned are at hand and we ask the following question: how can these lessons help us shape and build learning and teaching landscapes of the future?
This workshop will first give a few examples illustrating how teachers and students used videos as teaching material, produced them in collaboration with other teachers and/or students and submitted or requested them as part of assignments fully integrated in mandatory courses. The second part will focus on better understanding the underlying processes and direct consequences in terms of resources, support (media literacy, digital competences, legal issues, open practices and education, etc.) and implementation of new formats. In the last part of the workshop, all participants and presenters will design a few scenarios inspired by the opportunities and challenges derived from the examples presented in the workshop, their own experience and the tendencies and trends in the field of teaching and learning.
