The incommensurability of foreign school leaving certificates poses a major challenge to universities and prospective students alike. A way to ensure a fair assessment of academic qualification gained abroad is an academic aptitude test such as the newly introduced digital format of the TestAS. It is a standardised, fair, highly valid yet flexible and efficient instrument, thus meeting the needs of equally universities and appliccants.
In a first step, we will explore which capabilities must be taken into account in the construct of a study aptitude test in order to increase the accuracy, reliability and fairness of selection processes. In a second step we demonstrate, contrasting the paper-based TestAS with the digital format, which requirements were needed for the development of the new digital format and which criteria were guiding for the implementation. Finally, the resulting innovations and advantages for participants and universities are explained.
