BIRD - Bildungsraum Digital: Exploring a digital networking infrastructure for education
The research project Bildungsraum Digital, or BIRD for short, is tasked with the development of a prototype of a federated infrastructure for digital education in Germany. Already existing but previously isolated educational platforms and individual educational services will be interconnected and merged into a whole, while preserving the heterogeneity and at the same time ensuring broad interoperability. A distributed middleware supports users in developing their personalized learning paths. Research is based on concrete development achievements and in dialog with the education community.
BIRD’s main goal is to explore the requirements for the development of a National Education Platform for Germany that enables users to access all connected learning services through a single search.
The Slot will be introduced by Alexander Knoth, Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and Head of Section Digitalisation of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Afterwards, there will be a live demo of a user journey through BIRD and finally a presentation on the BIRD Lab.
