In an era of climate change, cities are increasingly tasked with managing green spaces in ways that maximize their environmental, social, and economic benefits. Efficient, data-driven green management is key to building more resilient urban landscapes. At R3GIS, we offer a range of advanced software and hardware solutions designed to help cities optimize the care and maintenance of urban greenery while adapting to climate change.
This presentation will focus on data collection and sharing efforts within the BioBox INTERREG IT-AT project, focusing on key bioindicators such as birds, bats, and pollinators. These species were selected due to their critical roles in ecosystem health and their sensitivity to environmental changes, making them valuable indicators of ecological balance.
The talk will outline the methodologies employed for data collection, including field surveys, automated monitoring systems, and citizen science initiatives. It will also address the challenges of harmonizing diverse datasets to ensure compatibility with existing environmental data frameworks. R3GIS will share the current progress of these efforts and discuss the technological infrastructure being developed to support this initiative.
Additionally, the roadmap for integrating urban green infrastructure data into the Open Data Hub will be presented. The discussion will highlight potential applications of this data in areas such as biodiversity conservation planning, urban green space management, and climate change mitigation policy-making. Real-world examples will demonstrate how these datasets can enhance decision-making processes and drive innovation in environmental management tools.
By sharing this information, R3GIS aims to foster collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and technology developers, encouraging a community-driven approach to tackling pressing environmental challenges.
I have a bachelor's degree in natural sciences from the University of Padua and I am currently attending a master's degree program in Environmental Sustainability and Education.
During my internship at R3GIS in Bolzano, I will work on the implementation of European projects in Italy, focusing on "TALEA - Green Cells leading the green transition" and "INTERREG IT-AT | Crossover Biodiversity Tool Box".
