Pierre-Yves Gibello, OW2
Pierre-Yves is the CEO of OW2 since 2022: a European non-profit FOSS foundation, we host open source projects, promote them, animate a community mixing academics, companies, public bodies, foundations, associations and individuals, promote FOSS by organizing or participating to professional events,
and advocate for it at political and social levels. OW2 is also involved in the Open Internet Stack and EuroCommons FOSS and commons funding programmes.
Before, Pierre-Yves was an open source supporter for 29 years, writing code, doing business and consulting, working with academia, teaching computer science and participating in OW2 as an elected Board representative.

The FOSS and digital commons funding landscape evolves a lot: OW2 is at the heart of several new dedicated initiatives, including the EU Horizon "Open Internet Stack" cascade funding R&D grants open to all European entities and individuals - led by NLnet and intended to replace the previous NGI programme with a similar lightweight application process, and the EuroCommons project backed by the French National development bank, Caisse des Dépôts, to reduce EU's dependency on foreign proprietary stacks by switching to open source - with an innovative vision based on loans repaid with license savings, for consortia of professional users and developers.
This talk is an explanatory one, for potential applicants: how these initiatives work, what they are intended for, who can apply - then how to join in and get funded.
