DESCRIPTION:The Open Source Programme Office (OSPO) has become a key part
of supporting an organisation’s open source strategy\, going beyond lice
nce compliance and risk management.\n\nCERN\, the European Organization fo
r Nuclear Research\, approved the creation of its OSPO in 2023 to support
the production and use of Open Source software and hardware within the org
anisation\, to showcase its contributions to the software and hardware com
mons\, and to serve as a focal point for Open Source in the high-energy ph
ysics community.\n\nIn this talk\, we present the work carried out by CERN
’s OSPO\, with a focus on two areas: global public infrastructures\, inc
luding how CERN engages with and supports free and Open Source software ec
osystems\; and digital sovereignty\, in particular initiatives that help a
 void vendor lock-in.
