Matthias is a connector of Ideas, People & Innovation: he operates at the crossroads of technology, business, and science – as strategist in the public sector, with over two decades of experience in helping governments leverage technology to create public value.
His main focus is on Cloud-Edge Continuum, Artificial Intelligence, Industrie 4.0, Data Spaces and Innovation Management.
Currently responsible for the 8ra initiative at the DLR Project Management Agency, previously spent four years as a seconded national expert at the European Commission in the field of AI, data spaces, and digital innovation hubs. Further experience at European Center for Information and Communication Technologies, Deutsche Telekom, and the Institute for Futures Studies and Technology Assessment.

Open Source is becoming a key enabler for Europe’s digital sovereignty, interoperability and technological competitiveness. But how do all the initiatives contribute and converge to a European Cloud Stack? This Talk will describe, how IPCEI-CIS / 8ra is establishing the foundation for a federated and sovereign European cloud-edge continuum, what the current status is, how this fits into the bigger picture and how new initiatives such as IPCEI-AI and IPCEI-CIC are expected to further strengthen Europe's capabilities in artificial intelligence and next-generation digital infrastructures.
