OpenEmbedded Workshop 2025 Call for Participation

The OpenEmbedded Workshop is for developers, maintainers, and users to meet and present. Topics can include current work, interesting discoveries or proposals, or their latest side-quest using OpenEmbedded and the Yocto Project. This is a chance to talk about and share your work related to the OpenEmbedded ecosystem - not just embedded Linux, but also Zephyr, FreeRTOS, docker or whatever you use the build system for.

The workshop is held on February 3, 2025 at Silversquare Delta in Brussels, located at Av. Arnaud Fraiteur 15/23, 1050 Ixelles, Belgium (new location this year). The day after FOSDEM.

We are interested in (but not limited to) the following topics:

  • Product lifecycle management
  • Long Term Support stories
  • Real world case studies
  • Reproducible builds
  • Creating layers that work well in the ecosystem
  • Board Support package best practices
  • Workflow techniques for projects
  • Automated testing
  • Supporting customer needs
  • Supply chain integrity
  • Multi configuration builds
  • Systems beyond traditional embedded
  • New user and developer's experience reports
  • Software bill of materials
  • What can OpenEmbedded and the Yocto Project do better?

We have two time slots available:

  • 30 minutes (20 minute talk, 5 minutes for questions and 5 for setting up the next talk).
  • 45 minutes (30 minute talk, 10 minutes for in depth questions and discussion, and 5 for setting up the next talk).

The CFP closes Dec 21, 2024.

There will also be space for demos during lunch and breaks. Use this CFP submission form to submit your demo proposal.

If you have an idea that is related to OpenEmbedded and the Yocto Project that is not covered here, submit it!

We understand that many presenters are also submitting talks to FOSDEM. If you also submit here, leave us a note and let us know if you want to present at both events. FOSDEM provides a large audience with a broad background. The workshop audience tends to be a lot more technical, so the talk can work in both places and you may get very different questions here.

We abide by an official Code of Conduct; please review the code prior to submission. The Code of Conduct can be found here. Your submission implies the acknowledgement and agreement to this code.

We may have money available for travel support. If needed, check the associated box with your CFP submission.

The workshop will have an audience representing a broad spectrum of experience. Talks should assume a reasonable familiarity with OpenEmbedded and the Yocto Project, but not necessarily the mastery of all possible topics. The day is designed to bring together people with a shared interest in building custom Linux distributions (and other operating systems built from source).
